At his core Ed Reed is a football player, not because he plays for the NFL's Baltimore Ravens, or was the Defensive Player of the Year in 2004. It's not the numerous Pro Bowls he has played in, or the national championship he helped win in college at The University of Miami. The reason Ed Reed is a football player is because that's what he loves and was born to do. A huge part of what makes Ed Ed, is the work he does with and for young people. A large part of that includes what Reed does in his hometown outside New Orleans with his football camp. Each summer Reed gathers together teammates, other players and coaches from around the league and local high school coaches to put on "The Ed Reed Destrehan Summer Football Camp", where young athletes between the ages of 7-17 participate in all sorts of fun football activities and drills. The cost of the camp has remained an inexpensive endevour for the children due to the help of local and national sponsors. The four day camp starts each morning with Roll Call and Stretching and ends with any combination of a punt pass and kick competition, an obstacle course, or even a full on football game. Somewhere mixed in-between are agility drills, form running, and instruction from different position players and coaches. Besides having fun the overall goal of the camp is to teach the basic fundamentals of football. Each camper will be instructed in the techniques used in every position on the field, which enhances their skills and results in a better football player.
